UFE Recovery Time

Fibroid embolization usually requires a hospital stay of one night.

The fibroids cause pain when they start to shrink which is managed by the interventional radiologist. The patient is discharged the following day and most are able to return to work in seven to 10 days.

UFE ADVANTAGES

  • About 90 percent of women who have embolization experience significant or total relief of heavy bleeding, pain and/or bulk-related symptoms.
  • There is a tiny skin incision.
  • The procedure avoids general anaesthesia.
  • The procedure is effective for multiple fibroids and large fibroids.
  • Recurrence of treated fibroids is very rare.
  • The complication rate of uterine fibroid embolization is very low.
  • UFE is an established, safe procedure that had been performed for over 20 years. Over 30000 embolizations are performed annually around the world.
  • Most medical aids cover uterine fibroid embolization.
  • The injected particles do not cause any side effects.
  • Quicker recovery than having a hysterectomy and less invasive than myomectomy.

FERTILITY

Pregnancies have been reported following uterine fibroid embolization but this procedure is mainly recommended to treat symptomatic patients rather than those with infertility due to the fibroids.
