Uterine Fibroid Symptoms

Depending on the size, location and number of fibroids, they may cause:
- Heavy menstrual bleeding which can lead to anemia.
- Pelvic pain Pressure symptoms such as frequent need to urinate and back pain.
- Pain during sexual intercourse.
- Bladder pressure leading to a frequent urge to urinate.
- Enlarged abdomen.
They can cause pain, heavy bleeding and pressure symptoms such as back pain and frequent urination.
Uterine fibroids are the most common tumors in women. They may be referred to as leiomyoma, leiomyomata, myoma and fibromyoma.
The number and position of the fibroids is important in determining treatment options.
Subserosal Fibroids
These may have a neck and extend outside the uterus. These are called pedunculated fibroids and may be a contraindication to embolization.
Intramural Fibroids
These are in the muscular wall of the uterus and are safe to embolize. This is the most common location for fibroids.
Submucosal Fibroids
These pushing into the lining of the uterus and can cause very severe bleeding.
